Man jumps on to Shanghai subway tracks, halting trains
          ( 2003-09-26 11:14) (Xinhua)

A middle-aged man jumped on to the tracks of Shanghai No. 1 subway Thursday afternoon, halting trains for a short time.

The man injured his legs, but sustained no life-threatening injuries.

The subway resumed normal operations after police dealt with the affair. Further investigations are underway.

The incident followed another incident on Shanghai's No. 3 subway on Wednesday, when the doors of one train malfunctioned and the vehicle was towed to a station for repairs, but over 20 passengers refused to disembark, delaying other trains for about 72 minutes.

The company in charge of the operation of Shanghai subways appealed to the public to help maintain normal operations and to cooperate with subway workers especially in emergencies.
