          Chinese FM meets ACD counterparts
          ( 2003-09-28 10:47) (Xinhua)

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing attended here on Saturday an informal meeting of foreign ministers of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) member countries and exchanged views with his counterparts over pan-Asia cooperation in finance, agriculture, energy and environment.

Li first welcomed four new members to the ACD meeting + Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Oman and Kuwait. He noted that things had gone smoothly since the ACD was initiated more than a year ago. ACD members carried out their activities in their capacity as rotating host countries, which helped create a favorable atmosphere for cooperation.

Li spoke highly of the positive results yielded at the informal meeting of ACD foreign ministers held in Chiang Mai, Thailand in June this year.

He stressed that amid profound changes and readjustment in the world at large and the Asian region in particular, enhancing cooperation among Asian nations and broadening their consensus would better safeguard and promote their interests.

China is making preparation for the informal meeting of ACD foreign ministers scheduled for 2004.

Also on Saturday, Li met his counterparts from Vanuatu, Pakistan, Cuba, Bulgaria, and Iraq, as well as Ahmed Chalabi, rotating president of Iraqi Governing Council. The minister exchanged views with them on bilateral ties, the current international situation and the reform of the United Nations.
