Schwarzenegger's wife to return to NBC news job
          ( 2003-10-09 11:32) (Agencies)

Wife of the governor-elect of California State, Maria Shriver, will return to her job as a NBC News correspondent after having helped her Hollywood actor husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger, win the election in the most populous state of the United States, the TV network said Wednesday.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver grin for the cameras on their wedding day in 1986. The couple now has four children.
Shriver took unpaid leave of absence from the network over the past two months to avoid potential conflicts of interest during Schwarzenegger's campaign for governor.

As her husband is now elected California governor, Shriver will return to her job on condition that she avoid coverage of stories related to her husband or the state government, said NBC News President Neal Shapiro.

However, Shriver, a niece of former American President John Kennedy, will be free to cover international stories, profiles and other good stories elsewhere outside California, though she will remain based in Los Angeles as an NBC News correspondent and contributing anchor to "Dateline NBC."

No return date has been set, but she was expected to return to work after Schwarzenegger formally took the governor's office sometime next month.

Shriver, 47, has been standing beside her beleaguered husband throughout the campaign, which witnessed sexual harassment charges against Schwarzenegger by 16 women.

Her appearance with her husband on various campaign spots helped defuse the crisis for Schwarzenegger, who won a landslide victory in Tuesday's election.

In his victory speech Tuesday night, Schwarzenegger began by thanking his wife for winning many votes for him.
