          ( 2003-12-06 11:28) (Xinhua)

Chinese swimmers flexed  their muscle Friday on the second day of competition in the World Military Games pool as they won four of seven tightly contested  finals.

Qi Hui led in the women's 100-meter breaststroke, timing one  minutes, 10.30 seconds to edge Svitlana Bondarenko of Ukraine on  one minutes 11.35 seconds.

Russian Ekaterina Kormatcheva was beaten to third with one  minutes 13.52 seconds.

And China's Zhou Yafei took gold in the women's 100 butterfly  in 59.32 seconds, leading Natalia Soutiaguina and Irina Bespalova  of Russia.

Zhou also set the new record of the World Military Games.

Early on Friday, Zhao Tao claimed the men's 200m backstroke title in two minutes and 02.33 seconds and his compatriot Cheng  Jiaru won in the women's 100m freestyle with 56 seconds.

Russia picked up two golds in the men's finals, with Pavel  Balachov winning the 100m freestyle and Roman Ivanovski edging out his compatriot Sergey Gerasimov in a hotly contested 100m  breaststroke.

Sergiy Advena of Ukraine won the men's 200m butterfly race 2:00. 47, touching home just ahead of Italian Francesco Vespe and Luca  Gardonio.

The swimming program continues Saturday with finals in men's  400 and women's 400 freestyles, the women's 200m medleys and  relays.
