          China expects 92m new phone users in 2004

          As many as 40 million new fixed line phone users and 52 million new mobile phone users are expected in China this year, according to a conference on national information industry development Wednesday.

          Income of the communications industry for 2004 will be targeted at 575 billion yuan (69.3 billion US dollars), of which 519 billion will come from the telecommunication sector, said Wang Xudong, minister of information industry.

          According to Wang, the information industry should work on a coordinated improvement in the network, business, and service quality, to boost national economic growth.

          In 2003, the added industrial value of the information industry in China was 709 billion yuan, and income was 515 billion yuan.

          China saw 112 million new phone users in 2003.
