The following is the biographical sketch of Zhang Kehui, who was just elected vice-chairman of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC):

Zhang Kehui, male, born in 1928, of Han nationality, native of Zhanghua, Taiwan.

Studied at Taiwan High School of Commerce, Taiwan Teachers' College and Xiamen University in 1942-1949; joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1948; company head of the PLA Fujian-Guangdong-Jiangxi Border Column in 1949.

Served as section chief of United Front Work Department of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, deputy secretary-general of CPPCC Fujian Provincial Committee, deputy director of Fujian Provincial Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, deputy director of Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office since 1949.

oined Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSGL) in 1979;chairman of Fujian Provincial Branch of TDSGL; vice-chairman of Fujian Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots; member of Standing Committee and head of United Front Work Department of CPC Fujian Provincial Committee; vice-chairman of 5th and 6th CPPCC Fujian Provincial Committee in 1983-1988; advisor to mainland-based Association of Relations Across Taiwan Straits.

Deputy director of Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council in 1990; president of 4th and 5th Council of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots in 1991-1997; honorary chairman of 6th Council of All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots in 1997; vice-chairman of 5th TDSGL Central Committee in 1992; chairman of 6th TDSGL Central Committee in 1997; executive council member in 1993,and president of China Council for Promotion of Peaceful Reunification in 1994. President of 6th Council of China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification in 1999.

Standing Committee member, vice-chairman of Committee for Internal and Judicial Affairs of 8th NPC; member of 5th and 7th CPPCC National Committee; vice-chairman of the 9th CPPCC National Committee.
