Trials for 1st national economic survey planned
          (Xinhua)

China will launch pilot surveys in preparation for the upcoming national economic survey in four selected counties of one municipality and three provinces during April and May, sources with the office in charge of the survey said in Beijing Monday.

A special group will be established after more than three months of careful studies and repeated revisions for the pilot surveys to be conducted in four selected counties respectively in Beijing municipality, northeastern Jilin province, eastern Zhejiang province and southwestern China's Sichuan province, the office under the State Council said.

Aiming to test the feasibility of the survey scheme and provide helpful experience, the pilot surveys, which are expected to conclude by early June, would pave the way for the upcoming national economic survey, according to the office.

In December of 2003, the Chinese State Council unified the formerly several economic surveys on industry, tertiary service sectors, basic civil units and building construction industry, and decided to launch the first national economic survey on December 31, 2004, which will be held every five years.
