Veolia Water wins new outsourcing contracts

Henri Proglio, CEO of Veolia Environment, a world leader in environmental services, announced the signing of two new municipal outsourcing contracts in the water sector with local Chinese governments this morning in Beijing.

"The first contract was signed with the Beijing municipal government. It covers the construction and operation for 20 years of a waste water plant in Beiyuan, which will be built next to the Olympic Village," said Proglio, who is attending the Beijing Mayor's Business Leaders Meeting.

He said the contract will generate a consolidated revenue of 20 million euros during the period.

The second contract concerns Zunyi, a city of 600,000 inhabitants in Guizhou Province. Veolia Water will rehabilitate and operate for 35 years the city's two drinking water plants.

Conducted in association with Citic Pacific, this period will generate a consolidated revenue of 210 million euros for the period, according to Proglio.

The new contracts further strengthen the leading position of Veolia Environment in China.

Established in the country since the 1980s through its water and waster management divisions, Veolia Environment manages more than a dozen major contracts in cities around China, especially Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Beijing, Guangzhou and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The corporation has operations all around the world and provides tailored solutions to meet the needs of industrial and municipal customers in four complementary segments: water, waste management, energy and passenger transportation.

Veolia Environment recorded revenue of 28.6 billion euros in 2003.
