          CISIC int'l logistics development forum kicks off

          The China International Logistics Industry Development Forum of the first China International Service Industries Convention & Expo (CISIC) opened in Beijing July 1.

          During the two-day event, government officials, international organization leaders, logistics company heads and experts will discuss China's logistics reforms and innovations, as well as the international logistics industry's development trends.

          Lu Jianhua, director of the Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce, hosted the forum and Vice-minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng made some opening remarks at the ceremony.

          Ma Liqiang, director of the National and Reform Commission; Xu Zuyuan, vice-minister of transport; Hu Yadong, vice-minister of railways; and Gong Zheng, vice-chairman of the General Administration of Customs, addressed the current situation and developmental policy of China's logistics industry, evolution from the traditional transport industry to modern logistics operations, the impact of railway speed increases on modern logistics development and tax bonded logistics reforms, respectively.

          Jesper Praestensgaard, global executive vice-president of AP Moller Maersk, and Robert Vastine, president of the United States Coalition Service Industries, talked about the challenges and opportunities of China logistics industry resulting from economic globalization and China's logistics-service competitiveness.

          The first CISIC is jointly sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, China Banking Regulatory Commission and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. It is supported by the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Railways, the General Administration of Customs, the Ministry of Information Industry, etc.

          The CISIC is also the first world-class forum on the service industry held by China after its entry into the World Trade Organization in 1999.
