Fifteen gold medals will be in play on the sixth day of competition at the Athens Games on Thursday, including another four medals in the swimming pool.

SWIMMING - 100 metres freestyle - The highlight of the women's programme.

Men's 200 metres backstroke - American Aaron Peirsol is unbackable to win the longer backstroke event after lowering his world record to 1:54.74 at the US Trials. Men's 200 metres individual medley - Phelps has the seven fastest times in history in this event and looks unbeatable for gold.

GYMNASTICS - Russia's Svetlana Khorkina will be aiming to become the first non-teenager to win the women's Olympic all-round gold medal since the 1968 Games.

ARCHERY - South Korea's in-form archers start favourites to win their country's first individual Olympic gold in the men's competition.

SHOOTING - Miroslav Janus of the Czech Republic seen as leading contender for the men's 10-metre running target. In the women's skeet final, Zemfira Meftakhetdinova of Azerbaijan will be looking to defend her 2000 gold medal.

FENCING - Aldo Montano, winner of the men's individual sabre, is willing to double his gold tally in the men's team sabre. However, they will face tough competition from Russia and France.

WEIGHTLIFTING - Kazakhstan's Sergei Filimonov competed of the 77 kg weightclass in Sydney and returns four years later as the gold medal favourite. After failing to take gold in the 48 kg the all-conquering Chinese women will look to world record holder Liu Chunhong to win the 69 kg.

JUDO - All eyes will be on a Japanese duo as the men's 100 kg and women's 78 kg categories take to the mat.

BADMINTON - Women's singles gold medal match, mixed doubles gold medal match.

ROWING - The men's and women's lightweight rowers take centre stage as they aim to qualify for the finals. The rowing programme has been disrupted by bad weather but the forecast is good for Thursday and the schedule should be back on track. The B and C finals will also be held on Thursday for the crews who missed out on the A final.
