30 hours of flight delay annoys passengers

Nearly 30 hours after they were scheduled to depart Shanghai, a group of angry passengers finally boarded Air China flight CA935 to Germany Tuesday afternoon, Shanghai Daily reported Wednesday.

The Boeing 747-400 arrived at Pudong International Airport from Beijing around Monday morning and was scheduled to depart for Frankfurt at 11:10am.

But the jet taxied a little too far after landing and ran into the boarding bridge at one of the terminals. The collision damaged an engine, forcing Air China to delay the flight.

No one was hurt in the accident.

Passengers say they are furious with the airline because it didn't tell them why the flight was delayed or when it would finally take off.

Since this is a peak season for tourism, another flight to Frankfurt operated by Lufthansa German Airlines was full and couldn't accept any more passengers. Air China says it arranged for all of the passengers to stay at a hotel near the airport during the delay.

"No one told us what time the flight would resume, let alone give us an explanation and compensation for the delay," said one female passenger.

An airport employee said that angry travelers, including many foreigners, gathered around Air China's office at the airport to ask for an explanation about 1pm Tuesday.

The flight eventually took off at 4:52pm Tuesday.
