| Akayev went to Russia after being
ousted |
Ousted Kyrgyzstan President Askar Akayev says he
has agreed to tender
his formal resignation.
Mr Akayev made the decision after three hours of talks with a
parliamentary delegation from Kyrgyzstan at the country's embassy in
Moscow.
He said a protocol had been agreed at the talks, according to which he
would formally step down on Monday.
The talks came hours after Kyrgyzstan's Constitutional Court said Mr
Akayev could legally resign in exile.
Mr Akayev made the announcement after talks with the delegation headed
by parliament speaker Omurbek Tekebayev.
"We have approved a very good and historic document," Mr Akayev said.
He said it would "pave the way for finding a way of out the political
crisis that Kyrgyzstan has found itself in".
Mr Tekebayev said the agreement would ensure "peace and legitimacy".
Mr Akayev fled to Russia on 24 March as a popular
uprising threw
Kyrgyzstan into political chaos.
He had told Russian media that he would be willing to return to resign
if his safety was guaranteed.
On Wednesday, acting president Kurmanbek Bakiev said Mr Akayev should
not risk returning to the country to offer a formal resignation
Mr Bakiev, who became the interim leader when Mr Akayev fled to Russia
last week, said his return would inflame the situation and "give rise to
mass unrest".
