          Certification, testing system launched

A textile testing and certification system was launched in Beijing yesterday, in a bid to meet Chinese textile manufacturers demands for independent standards of certification for textiles.

The system, established by CTS Textile Testing and Certification Services (CTS), covers a vast range of textile materials and products, including fibres, yarns, materials and completed products. CTS is the only institution in China specializing in the testing and certification of textile and garments.

The certifications will help Chinese enterprises to tap markets both at home and abroad, said Du Yuzhou, president of the China Textile Association.

He said enterprises preferred to adopt this method to guarantee the quality of their products to customers, adding that certification was more reliable for consumers than some other corporate promotions.

"A third-party certification is an important link that connects manufacturers to consumers," he said.

"Besides, an authorized quality guarantee is an enterprise's passport to the international market," Du said.

The testing and certification system will help Chinese enterprises to overcome some technological barriers imposed on their products, said Liu Zhuohui, deputy director of the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China.

Chinese textile exports, which account for nearly 20 per cent of the world's total, often encounter trade conflicts and technological barriers in their target markets.

Several certification standards for textile products already exist in China, although some of them differ from the compulsory standards in foreign countries.

"We are glad that Western countries have begun to accept the standards and certifications of China," Liu said.
