Davenport returns to top of world rankings

Lindsay Davenport officially returned to the top of the women's world
rankings for the first time since August 29 on Monday.
The American, runner-up at this year's Australian Open and Wimbledon,
clinched top place by reaching the Zurich Open quarter-finals last week.
Davenport, who overtook Russia's Maria Sharapova and Belgian Kim Clijsters to
go top, won her fourth Zurich title by beating Switzerland's Patty Schnyder 7-6
6-3 in Sunday's final.
It was the 29-year-old's sixth title of the season, third in six weeks after
victories in Bali and Filderstadt and 51st of her career.
Davenport, who ended the 1998, 2001 and 2004 seasons as world number.
