White Sox and Astros scoreless after three

HOUSTON - Freddy Garcia and Brandon Backe each pitched two-hit ball, and the
Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros were scoreless after three innings in Game
4 of the World Series on Wednesday night. Garcia and the White Sox were trying
to finish off a sweep for their first championship since 1917.

longest game in World Series history Tuesday night (and Wednesday morning), a
14-inning marathon won by Chicago on Geoff Blum's homer after 5 hours, 41
minutes.
Houston's hitters left nine runners in scoring position and stranded 15
overall in Game 3, and they were struggling again the next night.
The Astros were 0-for-5 with three strikeouts with runners in scoring
position in the first two innings Wednesday.
Chicago was looking to complete a second consecutive World Series sweep by a
long-overdue franchise — the Boston Red Sox downed St. Louis in four games last
year for their first title since 1918.
Only three of the previous 21 teams that trailed 3-0 in the World Series even
forced a Game 5. None made it to Game 6.
The 2004 Red Sox are the only major league team to overcome a 3-0 deficit in
the postseason, rallying to beat the New York Yankees in the AL championship
series.
Each team put a runner on second base in the first inning but failed to
score.
