Zoo and Botanic Garden

Changchun Zoo and Botanic Garden lies in the southeast of Changchun, 500metres to the east of People's Street and 3 kilometers away from the People's Square. It occupies an area of 74 hectares.

This park was built in 1938 and the first project was finished in 1940.

At that time, it was called the First in Asia for its large area and various kinds of exhibits of animals and plants. However, before the eve of the liberation of Changchun, the park was seriously destroyed. When Changchun was liberated, the park became ruins. After the founding of new China, the municipal government granted money to rebuild the infrastructures of the park many times. In 1984,a complete reconstruction was made. On September 15, 1987, the park was formally open to people.
