Swank is moving on after split with Lowe

NEW YORK - Hilary Swank, who split from actor-husband Chad Lowe a year ago, has a new man in her life. "I'm in a relationship with a great guy who's not a public person, and I want to respect that. But yes, I am in a relationship," the Oscar-winning actress says in an interview in the February issue of In Style magazine, on newsstands Friday.

That guy, according to the magazine, is her agent, John Campisi. Swank, 32, and Lowe, who turns 39 on Monday, announced their separation in January 2006, and an attorney for the couple said in May they would divorce after eight years of marriage. They have no children.

"I've never lived alone before, ever," says Swank, who won Oscars for "Boys Don't Cry" and "Million Dollar Baby." The actress received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday. Her star is the 2325th on the Walk of Fame.

"I went from living with my mom right to living with Chad. Now with my traveling a lot and not staying any place for long, I have a box filled with floating receipts, makeup I'll never wear, random dog toys, and a stack of greeting cards I pick out for friends, which inevitably end up in some storage unit."

Swank, who stars as an inspirational teacher in the drama "Freedom Writers," a Paramount Pictures release, says she learned to let her guard down after her breakup with Lowe.

"I absolutely couldn't have made it through the last year without my friends," she says. "It was hard for me to say, `Yeah, I need help.' But I did let go, and it was a relief."
