Obamas' inauguration style praised

Barack Obama and his family set a "wonderful example" with their fashion choices at his presidential inauguration.

The United States president - who was inaugurated for a second term in a public ceremony in Washington, D.C. yesterday (21.01.13) - and his family, including wife Michelle Obama and their two children, Malia and Sasha, have been praised for their styling at the event.

Simon Collins, dean of fashion at the prestigious Parsons The New School for Design, stated: "They are a stylish couple and their children look fabulous. Too many people get dressed in the dark. They show it's good to dress up, take pride in how you look. ... It's a wonderful example for America and the rest of the world."

First Lady Michelle, 49, looked glamorous in a silk navy check coat and dress by Thom Browne accentuated by a J. Crew belt, while daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, colour coordinated in purple outfits; Malia wore a plum-coloured J. Crew coat over an electric blue dress and Sasha wore a Kate Spade dress.

Deborah Lloyd, creative director for the fashion house said: "It is an honour that Sasha Obama chose to wear Kate Spade New York. She epitomises the youthful optimism and colourful spirit of the brand. We are so proud to have been a part of this historic moment."

Meanwhile, Jenna Lyons, creative director for J. Crew, added: "It's amazing to see the evolution of the family. I love the way Michelle looks. She looks beautiful in something so clean and tailored. It's such an elegant choice."
