Supermodel contest
The New Silk Road Model Contest has come to a climax, with eight contestants selected to enter the final competition, which will be aired on Qinghai TV on Feb 13. The competition has been running annually since 1989. Previous winners include supermodel Du Juan and Miss World Zhang Zilin. This year it takes the new format of reality show The Supermodel Academy. Before the final competition, the contestants were trained by star mentors.
Slow food China
Beijing Design Week introduced the founding of Slow Food China at the Italian embassy on Jan 27. Part of the international slow food movement, the organization aims to protect local food, regional cooking and fair trade against fast-food culture. As a winner of Compasso d'Oro, or Golden Compass, a widely recognized industrial design award, the slow food movement has a deep connection with design, says Zeng Hui, deputy director of Beijing Design Week's organizing committee. The slow food movement was first established by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1989. It now has millions of followers in more than 150 countries.
