BMW AG establishes its Beijing Representative Office.

March 2003

Joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) is formed between BMW Group and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings.

The joint venture constructs its first plant in Dadong, Shenyang.

October 2003

The first locally produced BMW car is released by BMW Brilliance Automotive.

November 2004

BMW Group Region China is set up as a separate sales region responsible for the Chinese market.

September 2005

The all-new BMW 3 Series (E90) is introduced to China at the same time it enters international markets, setting a new benchmark in its segment.

October 2005

BMW China Automotive Trading Ltd, responsible for sales of imported BMW and mini autos, is established.

November 2006

The BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase, developed for China and produced in Shenyang, is released.

November 2009

The company announces it will launch the BBA Strategic Production Expansion project.

June 2010

Ground is broken on the BBA Production Expansion in Tiexi, Shenyang.

September 2010

BMW Automotive Finance (China) Co Ltd, the first financial service joint venture between a premium auto brand and its Chinese partner, is established.

November 2010

An official partnership agreement is signed with the China Olympic Committee for 2011 to 2016.

May 2011

BMW China Services Ltd is founded.

March 2012

Local production of the BMW X1 begins in the Tiexi Plant

May 2012

Opening of the Tiexi Plant

August 2012

BMW announces it will upgrade engine production to 400,000 units by using the joint venture's funds to build a new engine plant at a new site next to the Tiexi vehicle plant.
