Leaders vow no letup in anti-graft drive

China will continue its clean governance and anti-corruption campaign next year and won't allow any opportunity for officials to slip back into undesirable work styles, senior leaders agreed on Wednesday.

This year saw progress and improved public confidence in the campaign to strictly govern the Communist Party of China and punish violators, according to a statement released after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee - a top decision-making body chaired by President Xi Jinping.

The violators included Zhou Yongkang and Ling Jihua, two former senior Party officials, the statement said.

Leaders called for "rock-solid will and resolve" to ensure success in the fight against graft, and "perseverance" to continue implementing the Party's policies against extravagance.

Party members should adhere to the code of conduct and senior officials should follow even stricter requirements, the statement said. There must be no chance for officials to slip back into bureaucracy, hedonism and other undesirable work styles.

It was agreed at the meeting that the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection - the country's top disciplinary watchdog - will convene from Jan 12-14. Participants at the meeting called for improved procedures to select loyal, honest and responsible inspectors for the commission.
