故事發(fā)生在1963年，時(shí)值冷戰(zhàn)期間，啞女艾麗莎（莎莉·霍金斯 飾）在美國(guó)政府實(shí)驗(yàn)室里工作，是那里的一名清潔女工。艾麗莎一直在沉默之中過(guò)著形單影只的生活，全部的朋友就只有畫家老頭（尼克·西塞 飾）和同事塞爾達(dá)（奧克塔維亞·斯賓瑟 飾）。
