影片簡介：

故事發生在1963年，時值冷戰期間，啞女艾麗莎（莎莉·霍金斯 飾）在美國政府實驗室里工作，是那里的一名清潔女工。艾麗莎一直在沉默之中過著形單影只的生活，全部的朋友就只有畫家老頭（尼克·西塞 飾）和同事塞爾達（奧克塔維亞·斯賓瑟 飾）。

一天，實驗室里拉響了高度戒備的警報，一個神秘的裝滿了水的水缸被送了進來，艾麗莎震驚地發現，缸子里關著一個半人半魚的怪異生物。在特工理查德（邁克爾·珊農 飾）的帶領下，科學家團隊想要從這怪物身上提煉出能夠制造生物武器的物質，可是在艾麗莎眼中，它不過是一個和自己一樣的孤獨的生命體。隨著時間的推移，艾麗莎和怪物之間竟然產生了感情。理查德在折磨人魚時被人魚咬斷兩節手指，氣急敗壞的理查德決定解剖人魚，得知這一消息后，艾麗莎決定展開營救……
