China wins!

China wins in soccer! No, this is not a story about the World Cup. This is a story about China winning a soccer match at this month’s Humanoid Robot Olympic Games. It was held in the city of Harbin, and college students from around the world entered their robots. Guo Weichao, a computer science student at Harbin Institute of Technology, won the contest after his robot scored the most points in a penalty shoot-out. Go China!

The World Cup of Cola

How about a World Cup of Coke? Chinese students this month set a new world record for the most cups of coke they could turn into giant fountains – all with the help of a package of mints. It’s a popular summer pastime, creating messy fountains by inserting Mentos mints into the cola. But the challenge at this year’s contest was: Is it better to funnel the mints into the cola with a piece of paper or to use mints on a stick? The Week investigates.
