High school students in Beijing are far morepromiscuousthan their teachers or parents think, according to a survey conducted in a city district.
More than half of those polled said there was nothing wrong with aone-night stand; and 6.2 percent admitted they already had a sexual encounter, according to the results released recently.
The average age when they first had sex was about 15, said the survey of 2,300 high school students in Xuanwu District . According to a 2005 survey by Durex, the condom maker, the global average age was 17.3.
The findings surprised even sex educators.
"The new generation is open-minded about sex, indeed we can only conclude that it is a result of a fast-changing society," Zhang Meimei, professor of education at Capital Normal University said.
Of the 1,300 girls asked if they would agree if their boyfriends sought sex, only six gave a definite "no".
The typical answer: "As long as he loves me, it's OK."
About 200 boys and girls said they were willing to have a one-night stand if an opportunity arose.
About 30 percent believed that teen sex is fine as long as it is consensual, and 55 percent said it depends on how much the two love each other.
Contrasting with the openness about sex is a lack of sexual knowledge.
More than 40 per cent of those who had sex didn't use contraceptives for the first time.
Teenage pregnancies have been on the rise in recent years; and under-age girls account for about a quarter of the 1.5 million abortions on the mainland each year.

據這項于近日公布的調查結果，一半以上的受訪學生認為“一夜情”沒什么錯，6.2%的人承認他們有過性行為。
這項由宣武區共2300名中學生參加的調查顯示，學生發生初次性行為的平均年齡為15歲。據安全套制造商杜蕾絲公司2005年的一項調查，全球初次性行為的平均年齡為17.3歲。
這一調查結果甚至讓性教育者們大吃一驚。
首都師范大學的張梅梅教授說：“現在孩子的性觀念很開放，我們只能說這是社會迅速發展的結果。”
在問及是否會同意男友提出的性要求時，受訪的1300名女生中只有6人明確表示“不會”。
最典型的回答是：“只要他愛我就行”。
大約200名左右的男生和女生說，如果有機會，來個一夜情也無妨。
約30%的受訪學生認為，至于性關系，只要雙方自愿就可以，55%的人認為這得看兩人相愛的程度。
與開放的性觀念形成鮮明對比的是，學生們所掌握的性知識非常貧乏。
在發生過性行為的學生中，40%以上的人在初次性行為時沒有采取避孕措施。
近年來，青少年早孕的發生率不斷增長。大陸地區每年有1500萬的墮胎案例，其中有四分之一是未達到法定生育年齡的女孩。
