Large Medium SmallArtist Wang Jianwei received the coveted Credit Suisse Today Art Award 2011 in Beijing.
The artist is noted for his new media works and installations that tackle philosophical or ideological issues that relate to contemporary life.
Initiated by Oriental Art magazine, Credit Suisse and the museum in early 2010, the award is the first of its kind to honor pioneering Chinese artists worldwide who "push forward boundaries and offer inspiration to his or her contemporaries", and to promote public awareness of contemporary Chinese art, says museum director Zhang Zikang.
