Into the wild

Ye was so impressed that she applied to attend, together with her eight-year-old daughter, a seven-day summer explorative camp in August. She flew from Beijing to Shanghai to participate.

During the short trip, Ye saw her daughter Duo Duo grow from a shy girl to a passionate child who is now fond of observing nature.

Back in Beijing, Duo Duo started collecting leaves and birds' feathers to make specimens. Making rubbings to decorate T-shirts and bags is now her favorite hobby.

"Huang and his team are more like big friends to those kids, leading them to discover the world of nature, enhance their mental focus and encourage them to develop skills from games, workshops and walking tours," Ye says.

From the child's perspective, the trip is far more interesting than taking nature science lessons at school.

"I was so excited to pick up a cicada slough in botanical garden, which I've never seen before. It was so fun to run around with new friends and see so many beautiful creatures," Duo Duo says.

Huang is gradually introducing night tours and more themes to attract more children to join the tours.

"I try to take children to see different things in nature to let them observe, think and discover the beauty hidden nearby." Huang says.
