Northeast China's Jilin province reported 30 newly confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 17 new asymptomatic cases on Jan 17, according to the Health Commission of Jilin Province. The province has taken five measures to cope with the possible further increase in the number of confirmed cases.

There are 66 designated hospitals and 27 designated backup hospitals in Jilin province, with 6,881 beds available for COVID-19 treatment, including 709 intensive care beds. At present, all confirmed cases and asymptomatic cases are receiving isolated medical treatment at these designated hospitals.

The provincial expert group is divided into six regional sub-groups. Each sub-group is responsible for the consultation and treatment of confirmed cases in two regions to ensure that every COVID-19 patient in the province has access to provincial-level expert consultation and treatment guidance.

Jilin is making full use of the experience of its medical teams that supported Wuhan last year to provide high-quality healthcare services for patients. It is planning to set up a provincial medical squad and increase the practical training of medical institutions at all levels.

Jilin also fully utilizes its five top hospitals and carries out the centralized allocation of medical resources. The five leading hospitals at the provincial level are responsible for treatment of critically ill patients in specific areas.

The province adheres to integrating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and Western medicine, the principle of "one person, one prescription" and the standardized use of drugs. All confirmed cases and asymptomatic cases are being treated according to syndrome differentiation.
