Bare land on both sides of the main roads within the second ring of Hefei city will be turned green by the end of 2014. Hefei is likely to receive the honor of being a national forest city in September.

Though there is less afforestation space, 17.74 hectares land in Hefei has still been afforested this year, which is 21 percent more than the task assigned by the provincial government. And eight hectares of the afforested land are in areas with a decisive influence on the surrounding environment.

Hefei has received the National Forestry Bureau inspection group's approval. In addition, nine counties or towns have become provincial forest towns, 96 provincial forest villages and 120 forest corridor road sections have been selected.

By April 28, Hefei had 106.4 million square meters of green land, of which 7.49 million square meters are new and 3.15 million square meters were upgraded.

In the northern area of Hefei, the Dongqu Wetland Park phase 2 is being planned and constructed. Construction of phase 1 of this park has already finished and tourists are now able to enjoy its bicycle slow channel. The second phase, located on the north bank of the Dongpu Reservoir and to the southeast of the Three Kingdoms Heritage Park, will cover over 30.68 hectares. The initial design has already been finished.

The 1st Hefei Forest Ecological Tourism Festival is being held from April 30 to July 31. A large number of scenic spots in the city, including the Binhu International Forest Park, the Niujiao Enbankment, and the Yefu Mountain National Forest Park have taken part in the Festival. It is estimated that over 5 million tourists undertook an ecological trip there in the May Day holiday.
