The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2013 focused on Creativity: The Next Generation. This choice highlights the importance of innovation; a core value which is considered to be at heart of IP. World IP Day was established to raise awareness of the need for IP protection among the general public and to build a legal environment which fosters respect for IP protection on an international scale.

A friendly IP legal environment is the basic guarantee necessary to nurture innovation. Continuous innovation cannot survive without a friendly legal environment. After years of unremitting efforts, China has accumulated a wealth of judicial experience, and the expertise of IP practitioners has matured with time. It now plays a decisive role in the country’s social economy. The verdict of a case can literally be a matter of life or death for an enterprise; a judicial interpretation may influence the overall development of an industry. Therefore, professional IP adjudication bears great responsibility for the innovation development of the whole nation.

As a professional IP media outlet, China IP once again focuses on the field of IP adjudication. With great help from IP courts at all levels, IP related organizations and IP judges, China IP has composed a special report named “Model IP cases of China from 2012” which is comprised of 25 typical cases selected from over 100 recommended cases after 3 months efforts. China IP hopes this special report inspires IP practitioners and sheds light on the essential role IP professionals play in shaping a safe environment that protects innovation.

I would also like to pay our highest tribute to all of the IP practitioners who have devoted themselves to developing a judicial environment in China which is friendly to IP innovation.
