Nation's first IP court opens

The first court in China dedicated entirely to intellectual property cases started operation in Beijing on Nov 6. It will hear all civil and administrative IP legal disputes in the city, but intermediate courts will continue handling their unfinished IP cases. The Standing Committee of Beijing Municipal People's Congress nominated the first 25 judges for the IP court on Nov 2.

Domestic deep-sea drilling ship

The Opus Tiger 1, the nation's first deep-sea drilling ship built with Chinese technologies, was finished on Nov 8. Funded by Reignwood Group and constructed by the Shanghai Shipyard of China State Shipbuilding Corp, the 46,000-ton ship can work in seas up to 1,700 meters deep and drill to 12,000 m below the ocean floor.

Latest lightweight aircraft on show

China Aviation Industry General Aircraft Co announced last week that the latest version of its five-seat lightweight multi-propose aircraft, the LE 500, will be showcased at the 10th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition in Zhuhai from Nov 11 to 16. The aircraft with new sensor systems has been designed and built with proprietary technologies. Contracts for export of 10 LE 500 planes are expected to be signed during the event.

Trade fair for college patents

The province's first trade fair for college patents will be held in Nanchang University from Nov 14 to 15. Organized by five governmental departments, the event was the local government's latest initiative to improve commercialization of technological breakthroughs by area universities. The fair will have 52 exhibition booths in five zones, and total space of nearly 2,000 square meters.

Trademark festival promotes brands

The 2014 China Trademark Festival was held from Nov 8 to 10 in Suzhou city with the theme of building domestic brands and encouraging international trademark exchanges. The 30,000 sq m venue attracted nearly 500 companies from across China.

Unwise fakes near Confucius Temple

A souvenir shop near Confucius Temple in the provincial capital Nanjing was fined 5,000 yuan ($817) by the local industry and commerce administration for selling counterfeit goods after enforcement officials found 75 faked Samsung earphones and 10 Coca-Cola mugs. The shop owner said he bought the counterfeits in the Yiwu small commodities market and did not realize the trademark infringement problems.
