Patent-collateral loans biggest in province
Two companies in Hunan, including Sansure Biotech Co, recently signed two 80 million yuan ($12.93 million) deals with Shanghai Pudong Development Bank to get the highest patent-collateralized loan in the province. By December, patent-collateralized loans in Hunan totaled 320 million yuan, up 100 million yuan over the previous year.

Helpful platform for SMEs launched
Zhenjiang city launched the first national IP trusteeship platform for small and medium-sized businesses on Dec 23. The platform provides users with services including IP applications, training, evaluation, deals, and insurance, according to a spokesperson. "The all-round services can help us SMEs greatly reduce our IP costs and better manage our IP rights," said Hu Xin, assistant manager from a technological company in Zhenjiang.

Baidu cartoon website showcases copyright
China's search engine giant Baidu Inc is building an animation copyright operation website. The website will be used to introduce copyrights of overseas cartoon images to Chinese companies for production and sale of related products. The website will provide commodities and prices offered by overseas companies, especially from Japan and South Korea. Baidu will charge a fee when a deal is made. The website will start operating in January.

Graduate shines at auction for polisher
A graduate of Chongqing University of Science and Technology recently earned 2 million yuan ($322,222) by auctioning his patented 3D polisher, designed to smooth three-dimensional products. Liu Hongwei began work on the polisher in 2013 when he was a senior student, and developed a prototype within three months. After further improvements, Liu said the machine could finish a polishing task in minutes, and he hoped it could help China reduce its dependence on imported polishers.

Police raid trademark cross-border network
Quanzhou police, working with police from eight cities and provinces, recently cracked down on a cross-regional trademark infringement after a two- month investigation. They closed eight hideouts and seized 27 suspects along with nearly 20,000 pairs of branded sports shoes with a potential retail value of 10 million yuan ($1.61 million). Brands included Nike, Adidas, Li-Ning and Camel.
