A research group, led by Cheng Guoqiang, secretary of the State Council's Development Research Center (DRC) academic committee, and Zhang Hong, vice-director of DRC's information center, visited the city of Shenzhen, Aug 14–17, for a survey and talks with members of the city's Development and Reform Commission, Department of Industry and Information Technology, and other offices. The group got an introduction to its industrial development and discussed barriers to healthy economic development.

They also did some field research at four companies and tried to learn more about the company's problems and development situation.
