Li Wei

Li was born in Feng county, Jiangsu province in August 1953. He joined the PLA in December 1970 and?began working as deputy chief of the Organization Section and for the Party committee of the Shanghai Chemical Import and Export Corp in April 1976.

He studied Chinese Language and Literature at Shanghai TV University, September 1982 - October 1985, and then became the liaison officer of the organization department of the Shanghai Party committee.

From March 1988, he was a Shanghai municipal government secretary and member of the Shanghai Party committee; He became secretary of the General Office of the State Council in April 1991. He was appointed head of the Premier's office in March 1998 and became deputy director of the State Council Research Office.

He was appointed deputy Party secretary of the Central Finance Work Committee in January 2003, then vice-chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission in March 2003. He became vice-director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission in October 2005 and was then appointed Party secretary and vice-president of the DRC in July 2010. He was made?president and deputy Party secretary of the DRC in April 2011 and was made a member of the 18th Party Central Committee.

He has done a lot of practical work and policy research in the macro economy, State-owned enterprises?reforms, management of State-owned equity, State-owned enterprises?bankruptcy, management of financial derivatives in SOEs, and informationization of enterprises. As a State Council official, he was involved in the rural credit cooperative reforms in the 2003-2005. He has published more than 70 papers and articles?the major newspapers and co-authored Financial Instruments and Insurance Accounting.

He has helped draft major Party Central Committee and State Council documents and help formulate policy documents of ministries and commissions. He recently did research on the macro-economy, financial policies, real estate market, urbanization, social management, and enterprise and institutional reforms.
