A conference on economic cooperation and development between China and India was held in Beijing on Nov 24.

The event--the First DRC and NITI Aayog Dialogue and China and India Development Round Table Conference--attracted many high-profile participants, including representatives from Chinese governmental departments, the Embassy of India in China, as well as scholars and experts.

The one-day event focused on the opportunities and challenges for the Sino-India economies against the background of international economic adjustment, how regional trade mechanisms could be an inspiration for China and India, and establishing a closer partnership through strengthening Sino-India economic cooperation.

Li Wei, President of the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC), and Shri Arvind Panagariya, Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, gave speeches at the event.

Prior to the meeting, Li Wei had met with the Indian delegation led by Panagariya, and exchanged views on the economic development of the two countries and future cooperation between the DRC and NITI Aayog.

The delegation also visited Tianjin and Shenzhen, surveying their industrial parks, high-speed rail construction, and high-tech enterprises.

The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) is a government policy think-tank of India established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is responsible for providing policy guidance and technological support for India's economic transformation and reform.

The DRC and the NITI Aayog are both important think tanks working for their respective central governments. The two organizations signed an MOU in May to establish a dialogue mechanism between the two countries. They will hold conferences in turn to discuss major policy issues in the two countries' development.
