Two of Fujian province’s most powerful men made an appearance in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ) on April 18 to inspect its economic and social progress.

You Quan, Party secretary of Fujian, and Su Shulin, Fujian’s governor, along with other officials from the provincial government, visited many industrial projects and construction sites in Pingtan, including a customs checkpoint about to open, Pingtan Xiehe Hospital, an industrial incubator for young Taiwan entrepreneurs and companies, to better understand the development situation.

Over the past four years, Pingtan has succeeded in improving its infrastructure and ecological environment. It also made innovations in administrative mechanism and industrial development, and expanded cooperation with Taiwan. The provincial authorities appreciated what the labor and entrepreneurs have pulled off, You Quan said.

In the next stage, Pingtan will shift focus from infrastructure construction to industrial transformation, which will require more hard work and more innovations from all the people involved. The provincial government will continue to support its development, he added.

You Quan also highlighted major tasks for Pingtan in the near future: to play a bigger role in cross-Straits communication and more integration in economy, society and culture with Taiwan; cultivate and grow industries with potential while paying attention to environmental protection; strive to make innovation in administrative mechanism and be a pioneer in economic and political reforms; improve the quality of local officials and cadres and crack down on corruption in all forms.
