Fresh off a cycling race, Taiwan workers took the opportunity to explore beautiful scenery in Pingtan on May 2, ptnet.cn reported.

The Taiwan visitors were invited to a cycling event held by Pingtan on the previous day to enhance cross-Straits cultural communication.

On the second day of their stay, they toured a number of iconic Pingtan destinations including the Nanzhai Mountain, Haitan Ancient City, General’s Mountain and a duty-free market.

The Haitan Ancient City appealed to the visitors most with the combination of modern and traditional architectural style.

Huang Yahong and his wife, both architects, said they are infatuated with the decorations of the buildings and they would definitely return to Pingtan in near future.

Peng Chitang, who came to Pingtan and the mainland for the first time, admitted Pingtan is much more beautiful than he had imagined, and urged people to protect the old stone dwellings.

Xu Liyu, a dancer, revealed she tried to live like an ordinary local resident, as she hopped from commodity markets to supermarkets to buy specialties and gifts for her families back in Taiwan.

“It now only takes three hours to go from Taiwan to Pingtan. I hope more Taiwan people will live and work in Pingtan in future,” she said.
