Fujian reached the 8th spot in the national intellectual property comprehensive development index rankings, local media reported Thursday, citing the statistics from local authorities.

The index is an indicator in the country to gauge a region's overall strength in patent filing, management, application and innovation.

According to Fujian provincial IPO, the patent filings in Fujian stood at 128,079 in 2017, up by 10.48 percent year-on-year.

As of December, 2017, a total of 31,006 invention patents were registered in the province, an increase of 30.32 percent over the same period last year.
