Fujian province will conduct feasibility tests to determine whether Pingtan and Taiwan can be covered under the same mobile phone number system. The new system will enable mobile users in both Taiwan and Pingtan to enjoy an intra-city mobile service fee.

In accordance with the Plan of Developing a Digital Fujian issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Fujian provincial government, Pingtan will strengthen its telecommunication infrastructure to create a wireless city.

The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone will build offshore cloud data centers, expand Taiwan service outsourcing, and provide Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region with service operation and maintenance, system integration, outsourcing, call centers, IT consulting, business process services, and knowledge process outsourcing.

Pingtan aims to develop into a state level service outsourcing demonstration zone and a cross-Straits base for cloud-computing industrial cooperation and cloud-computing service outsourcing.

Fujian province is working on the construction of new generation telecommunication infrastructure by 2020.
