To date, approximately 1,800 tons of freight worthy of $77 million has been transferred this year by a ferry that regularly sail between Pingtan in Fujian province and Taichung in Taiwan, said local port administration authorities in Pingtan, Fujian.

Being the world's fastest roll-on/roll-off ship, Haixia is prominently known for its active role in transportation of passengers from across the Taiwan Straits. But in fact it has also been attached with great importance in cargo transportation. Since its launch in late 2011, Haixia has shipped cargo at a value of nearly $100 million.

Currently the Haixia runs businesses of cargo transportation and postal delivery, said a manager of the Wagon Logistics Ltd in charge of Haixia's logistics business.

The postal delivery business of Haixia began in January and has transported 30 tons of international mails and packages from Fujian province. Most of the mails and packages that have gone through customs check-up from Pingtan to Taiwan are shipped by the Haixia ship, and then delivered by air to Japan, Europe, and the United States, etc.

The transportation of LCD makes up a big chunk of Haixia's cargo transportation. A total of 3,000 tons of LCD panels are expected to be sent from Taiwan to Pingtan within this year, and then delivered to as far as the Yangtze River Delta in East China and the Pearl River Delta in South China within a 72-hour delivery range, which saves much time for enterprises, said the logistics company.

The company also eyes the Haixia transportation of fruit to provide Taiwan fruits for a petty trade market and a fruit wholesale market in Pingtan, said the manager.
