Gong Qinggai, former director of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, east China's Fujian province, was recently appointed as one of four vice-directors of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, according to the office's website.

Gong Qinggai Biography

Gong was born in June 1958 in Shishi city of Fujian province, and he joined the Communist Party of China in March 1979. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the Open University of Hong Kong.

In July 1978, he was appointed secretary of the CPC Youth League branch at Shati team, at Yongning People's Commune in Jingjiang county, Fujian.

In September 1980, he served in the Organization Department of the Jinjiang CPC Committee, in Fujian.

In December 1992, Gong became vice-mayor of Jinjiang city.

In April 1995, he assumed the role of deputy secretary of the Jinjiang Municipal Party Committee and also became acting mayor. He officially became Jinjiang mayor the following year.

In May 2002, Gong was appointed secretary of the Jinjiang Municipal Party Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of Quanzhou city in Fujian.

In March 2005, he assumed the role of deputy secretary of the Quanzhou Municipal Party Committee.

In January 2007, he was named deputy secretary of the Nanping Municipal Party Committee and the city's vice-mayor. He became mayor of Nanping in June.

In February 2010, Gong assumed the role of secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone and the director of the zone.

In August 2012, he became a member of the Fujian Provincial CPC Leadership Group.

In October 2013, Gong was appointed vice-director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
