Pingtan tips hat to people who work during CNY (Part I)

Local newspaper Pingtan Times has interviewed a couple of people who worked during Spring Festival to keep things rolling as usual.

Mission uncompleted

Wei Aifang (right) is a sanitation worker responsible for East Road in downtown Pingtan. Like all her colleagues, she was still on duty on Feb 18, the eve of this year’s Spring Festival.

“On that day, we all worked until 4 pm. Then we went home for dinner, and got back on the streets again at 8 pm. After people were done lighting firecrackers at midnight, we had to clean them up before finally going home,” said Liu Meihua, another cleaner.

There are some 300 sanitation workers like Wei and Liu, who worked through the Spring Festival holiday dealing with 300 tons of household garbage alone every day, said the newspaper.

Night duties

Press workers in Pingtan had to take shifts during Spring Festival in a bid to bring local residents the latest news in all aspects. Ding Binyuan is one of them.

The editor of Pingtan Times went on with her daily routine on the first day of Spring Festival. First she collected news stories from all reporters. After a brief break at noon, she came to the newspaper for the night shift, knowing that her colleague Shi Nuoyi had caught a cold due to lack of sleep and fatigue from successive work hours.

The Pingtan Times didn’t suspend publication like other news agencies during Spring Festival. Instead it kept every procedure rolling in a bid to present the festive atmosphere in Pingtan to all its readers.

The official news website of the Pingtan government, Pingtan Television and Pingtan Radio Station stayed open during the period.
