Hundreds of colorful balloons will fill the skies above Pingtan, Fujian province, from April 15 as the island city launches its first Pingtan Cross-Straits Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

The high-flying festival will offer visitors the chance to take off from famous Pingtan attractions including Shipaiyang, Haitan Ancient City, Taiwan Aoqian Town and Tannan Bay, and see the islands' scenic spots from a new perspective.

People planning to attend the month-long festival can book their balloon ride in advance online, with the first 1,000 applicants getting their ride for free, according to the organizers.
