| The ceremony |
On August 25, three power generator units were put into operation at Ecuador Paute-Sopladora Hydropower Station built by CGGC. Ecuadorian President, Mr. Rafael Correa, attended the power generation ceremony and started up the units. Wang Yulin - Chinese ambassador to Ecuador, as well as leaders from the Ministry of Ecuador Electric Power and CGGC 2nd Engineering Company Limited were also present at the ceremony.
President Correa expressed his congratulation on the perfect completion of Sopladora hydropower station and delivered gratitude towards CGGC for its great efforts in the construction. Furthermore, he pointed out that successful power generation of the three generator units marked further improvement of energy development in Paute River Valley and such achievement should be attributed to CGGC's world-class project management art and engineering construction capability.
Accompanied by the working personnel, Correa paid a visit to the main transformer room, water turbine, generator and central control room of the power house. Witnessed by over 2000 Chinese and Ecuadorian people, he pressed the power-generating button to launch the three units, which then began to normally operate under full load, winning thunderous applause.
It is known that Sopladora hydropower station, located on the east border of Azuay Province and Ghana Province, has three mix flow generators, the total installed capacity of which reaches 487mw to satisfy 14% of annual power demand by the whole nation, benefiting a total of over 130 households. Ever since its start-up in April 2011, the project has been steadily promoted. On April 15, the first generator unit was connected onto the power grid. Currently, its three units have generated electricity at a total volume of 448,772,000kwh. Meanwhile, it has withstood Ecuador’s strong earthquake and provided valuable electric support for the disaster relief.
