Zhanjiang will expand its cold-chain logistics industry in a bid to boost agricultural development.

Wang Zhongbin, mayor of Zhanjiang city, conducted field research in the Xiashan Aquatic Product Wholesale Market, a renowned local aquatic product market, and Guangdong Yinxin Logistics Company to learn about cold-chain logistics development in Zhanjiang on January 7.

Wang said that Zhanjiang has abundant agricultural and aquatic products, and that fresh agricultural product sales depended heavily on cold-chain logistics. He said that the key to solve the paradox between abundant resources and poor farmers is to support cold-chain logistics industrial development.

Wang said that bellwether cold-chain logistics enterprises and demonstration zones should be cultivated, and that the development in each district and county should be based on their own circumstances.

Zhanjiang has become the largest aquatic product exporter in China, according to statistics from the Zhanjiang inspection and quarantine bureau, with an annual export volume of 122,800 tons valued at $1 billion in 2014.

Zhanjiang has made progress in promoting and applying cold-chain logistics technology. A logistics system combining agricultural product processing, wholesales and cold-chain logistics has been established.

Zhanjiang has 47 large refrigeration storage units with a total capacity of 56.75 million tons and 500 mechanically refrigerated lorries.
