Students in Longma village, Dahua Yao autonomous county, have the lucky opportunity to appreciate 28 museums from across the country without leaving home as of July 21.

Supported by the Firefly Project, a charity program launched by Wikipedia-like platform Baidu Baike, a team of volunteer teachers from the South-Central University for Nationalities donated a set of virtual reality (VR) equipment to students of Longma village, Dahua Yao autonomous county.

The cutting-edge technology allows students to "visit" a total of 28 museums, getting a glimpse of exhibits and unique collections from each museum and gaining insight into the histories and cultures behind the relics.

Baidu Baike first cooperatively launched a digital museum with several Chinese museums in 2012, including Sanxingdui Museum, Zigong Dinosaur Museum, Yungang Grottoes and the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture.

Huang Lianji, leader of the volunteer team, said "The quality information on Baidu Baike and internet technology helps to break the barrier of information inequality and bring more interesting and practical knowledge to students in remote areas."

The new equipment offers kids in the rural area access to museum exhibitions and facilitates a better understanding of splendid history and cultures.
