          4. Planning and Design of Bifengmen Folk Cultural Recreational Tourist Area, Chengde City

          I. Project Content

          The planned land is located at the north side of Alteration Project of Shanty Area in Bifengmen. Xiaoxigou Residential District lies to the east, Xiaozhenzigou Road lies to the west, the back-moving settlement block of Shanty Area Alteration and present residential building are to the south, and the wall of Imperial Summer Resort is to the north. The total planned area is about 7.6 ha.

          II. Planning Object and Principles

          On the basis of communication and amalgamation between the royal culture of Imperial Summer Resort and the folk culture, taking the ecological landscape garden resources as the base and the sustainable development theory as the guideline, the focus is to face international and internal cultural experience markets, expand the urban recreational holiday markets of Bohai Rim, Beijing and Tianjin actively, innovate such key projects as quality cultural experience, healthy entertainment and leisure and ecological holiday, and more so as to create the brand image of "Xanadu out of Imperial Summer Resort for leisure with beautiful landscape." Bifengmen Tourist Area will be built as: National 5A-Grade Tourist Area; an area for experiencing the communication and amalgamation between the royal culture and the folk culture deeply which is famous internationally; a symbolic brand of Chengde City Image; a healthy and recreational area suitable for tourism at all seasons; and the demonstration area of tourist development for the outer of Imperial Summer Resort with the functions of protection administration and tourist service (cultural experience, catering, shopping and leisure entertainment).

          III. Planning and Design Content

          The planned land is divided into two parts by Bifengmen Street. The north part includes Bifengmen Square, a pedestrian street out of the palace wall and public green space, while the south part owns an inner street near one kilometer consisting of 14 buildings of 2-3 floors along with different terrains. The architectural form is modern with traditional slope top, including Bifeng Hotel, boutiques, Emperor Game House, Villa Hotel, Delicacy Street with special snacks, Villa Theater, Royal All-Artisan Shop and Music Fountain, and more.

          5. Urban Design Project of Binhe New Town, Chengde City

          I. Project Content

          North to Sanchakou of Shuangluan District, west to Luan River, south to Laogoumen, the planned area can be 16.74 square kilometers.

          II. Project Background

          The planned area is located at Shuangluan District in the west of Chengde City. According to the requirements of "Decision of trying to construct a provincial top district of economic and social development through scientific development" of the district government, the area will be planned to integrate the land and the space effectively, arranged to construct such public facilities as municipal facility, traffic and green space, and constructed as to be developed healthily and scientifically.

          III. Planning Object

          The area plan is compiled to promote the city position of Shuangluan District, connect with Jing-Jin-Tang Economic Circle, integrate into Economic Belt surrounding the Bohai Sea, join with the project of vanadic titanium industrial cluster district, accelerate the industrial transformation of Shuangluan District, reflect the urban construction features of Shuangluan District, and show the urban development achievements of Shuangluan District.

          IV. Planning Principles

          According to "2008-2020 General Planning of Chengde City", the function orientation of Shuangluan District is an affiliated tourist area.

          V. Planning and Design Points

          1. Seriously study the development and change tendency of the planned area and put forward clearly the whole function and its function orientation of the area during the city development.

          2. Fully understand the function and position in the general urban structure of the planned area, put forward the land use and distribution principles of rational use of land and effectively play the land value, and decide the land distribution structure of this area.

          3. Formulate such planning and controlling principles as land use character, construction capacity and architectural form of every function area and land. Put forward the controlling requirements of concrete land use, compatibility and land use intensity. Put forward the controlling and directing requirements for the distribution and configuration of such open space as roads, squares and green spaces.

          6. Construction and Design of Chengde Museum

          I. Project Content

          The planned land is located at Xiaonanmen Section on the Shanzhuang east road of Chengde City (the former location of Chengde No.2 Middel School). Its east side is facing Wulie River and its west is near the world cultural heritage----Imperial Summer Resort. The planned area is about 4.2 ha.

          II. Planning Object and Principles

          Following the design principle of conciseness, steadiness and elegance, using for reference the royal-style features of the buildings in Chengde Imperial Summer Resort which are simple and natural but steady and elegant, Chengde Museum will continue the city's history and spirit. The architectural image is the extension and composition of pure blocks, which are simple but strong.

          III. Planning and Design Details

          The architectural plan is worked out by Zhoukai, a master of architectural design. The project includes two parts, in which one is the museum building and the other is the office building of the Cultural Relics Bureau. The total planned area is 32,730 square meters, in which the architecture area of the museum is 27,783m2 and the office building is 4,947 m2.

          With Chengde historical and cultural background, the design concept continues the "mesa" architectural ideal of Chengde to arrange the building space in accordance with large-scale courtyards which are often adopted in royal parks of Qing Dynasty in Chengde. The architectural function includes exhibition, collection, research, office, logistics administration and equipment room. Aside from traditional museum space are modern art exhibition corridors, an outdoor exhibition area, a propaganda and education space, and recreational catering space in the design. At the same time of providing all-around cultural service, it will create more space for public participation with more energy.
