Since 2009, Ruzhou citizen Song Zhaopu has treated 191 orphans with cerebral palsy and invested nearly ten million yuan in founding the Ruzhou Jingeng Hospital, now a home of CP orphans. Locally, his good deeds have become a much-told tale.

The hospital has a monthly profit of more than 600,000 yuan; other than the salaries paid to the 98 nursing staff, the rest were put into nursing and rehabilitation therapy for CP orphans.

Due to his tireless work, Song at his age of 47 is already gray-haired, well known for his dedication to CP children. Some by hearing of his story abandoned their own children with cerebral palsy at the hospital’s gate; Song then takes them into hospital care.

Every morning in the Outpatient Clinic, Song Zhaopu would personally receive patients. In the afternoon when the kids woke up from their afternoon nap, he would take time off to see the kids no matter how busy he was. These children are placed in the fifth floor; when they saw Song coming, they would jump up and down cheerfully and cry out for “grandpa”. Song would then takes out some biscuits and give them to each child. The children would often eat biscuits, dance to music and show ‘grandpa’ their new tricks.

Over time, physical therapists at the hospital have also become attached to the children. They have been moved by Song Zhaopu and are often willing to stay longer to take care of the children regardless of how tired they are.

Helped by kindhearted people from all walks of life in recent years, the children's living conditions have gradually improved and many children are recovering. To date, 46 orphans with restored health have been adopted by American families. It is comforting to know that these kids, just like any other kid, end up living and growing up in normal and loving families.

Before parting, Song Zhaopu would give each of them a piece of jade with their name engraved on it and a bag of local soil  for luck and so that never forget their place of birth.
