A meeting to kick the construction of the low-carbon city in Huaqiao International Service Business Park was held on Jan 12.

Present at the meeting were Mr Gu Xiaoping, deputy director-general of Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr Chen Jidong, director of Scientific Research and Design Department, Mr Sun Xiaowen, director of Science and Technology Development Center, as well as responsible members from the municipal Construction Bureau, Planning Bureau, Development and Reform Commission, Economic and Trade Commission, relevant staff from the five bureaus and office in Huaqiao and representatives from relevant enterprises such as construction, design and supervising companies.

The meeting started with a speech delivered by Mr Ye Hua, vice chairman of Natural Resources Institute (NRI) Shanghai. In his speech, Mr Ye gave an introduction to the general concepts of low-carbon city construction and the initial plan and ideas for the construction of a low-carbon city in Huaqiao International Business City. Furthermore, he offered his professional guidance for the implementation.
It was followed by a report titled "Prepare for the Future and Take a lead in Construction of a Low-carbon Business City", which was given by Mr Ren Xueyuan, director of the Managing Committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone. Mr Ren pointed out that the low-carbon city construction met the global development trend and the requirements of city development in Kunshan City.
Mr Ren described the Business Park blessed with its unique advantages in low-carbon city construction, which was characterized by low carbon advantages in the leading industries, new buildings with good foundations for greenery and energy saving, relatively mature transportation planning, and 100% of urbanization rate. According to Mr Ren, the Business Park would strive to develop into a low-carbon city. He also illustrated the ideas and measures to advance the construction of the low-carbon city in terms of development plan, project construction and mechanisms.
Mr Gu expressed his affirmative opinions on the strategic move to construct low-carbon cities and said that Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development would provide adequate support for the project in policies, mechanisms and technologies. In addition, he also clarified the significance of developing low-carbon cities at the level of the whole province, along with the Jiangsu provincial strategy for resources-saving urban-rural planning and development.

At the end of the meeting, Mr Ren and Mr Gu unveiled the plaques of "Jiangsu Provincial Green Buildings Construction Technology Research Sub-Center" and "Huaqiao International Business City Low-Carbon Research Center".

At the end of the meeting, Mr Ren and Mr Gu unveiled the plaques of "Jiangsu Provincial Green Buildings Construction Technology Research Sub-Center" and "Huaqiao International Business City Low-Carbon Research Center". The two centers will serve as the technology support platform for the low-carbon city construction of in the Business Park.
