Remains of more than 3,000 Kuomintang soldiers sacrificed during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggressors were dug out recently at a building site in central Hubei Province.

White bones of fallen heroes were exposed after downpour washed mud off in the foundation pit in Yichang City. Workers have gathered the bones which belonged to the soldiers of the 4th Reserve Division of KMT 75th Corps and kept them in a safe place, China News Service reported.

A military hospital was built in the area, recalled 73-year-old Qin Debiao, a villager at Huanghua Town in Yichang's Yiling District.

Many wounded soldiers died due to lack of medicine or treatment as the area was blocked by Japanese troops for four years from 1940, the report said. According to some veterans' memory and words on a tombstone, at least 3,000 KMT soldiers were killed in fierce battles in the four years. In a sneak raid in the winter 1941, the 10th regiment of the division was ambushed by the Japanese. Only 13 out of the more than 1,000 soldiers survived, including three seriously wounded.
