The present focuses of environmental protection industry of Hubei Province are manufacturing and dealing of environmental protection equipments (products), comprehensive utilization of resources and environmental services and other fields, with its major enterprises centring in Wuhan.

As to the environmental protection system, project equipments and products developing, it has a set of world-advanced and nationally leading achievements. Among them, the treatment of photochemistry waste water and products for it, shock wave mass transfer anaerobic biological and chemic process technique and its products, ozone disinfectant producing technology and its products, etc. are at world advanced level. Cycle anaerobic-aerobic biological membrane treatment and equipments for it, stack gas desulphurization technology with spin spray drying method, reclaimed alkali wastes boiler, etc. are at nationally leading level. The environmental protection industry has become one of the five leading industries of Wuhan in fasting modern manufacturing industries, and it will gradually grow into dominating industry.

At the same time, the establishment of Wuhan Qingshan Environmental Base has been approved by relative departments of China. At present, Hubei (Wuhan) owns more than 200 environmental protection enterprises, among which more than 16 are with assets surpassing 100 million, and nearly 40 with assets surpassing 10 million. Wuhan Kaidi Electric Power Co., Ltd has introduced the technology of sulphur removal in dry-process from WULFF Corporation of Germany and stack gas desulphurization in wet process from B&W Corporation of USA, and becoming the one of the earliest enterprise having the technology of sulphur removal both in dry and wet process within China. It has turned from the only atmosphere harnessing to three fields of harnessing of water, solid and atmosphere pollution.

Moreover, this corporation has introduced from USA the isolation technique of regenerating unit cone resin with bound water fine treatment and electric deionisation water purifying technique. Wuhan Tiancheng Environmental Protection Science & Technology Co., Ltd circling the main research of “the industrial flue gas controlling center of national environmental protection”, has obtained 45 pieces of national patents, 6 pieces of national scientific payoffs, 225 pieces of scientific payoffs of provincial and departmental level, and is presently undertaking the projects of “high efficient controlling techniques and equipments for minute particles of burning boilers of power plants’ of the 863 program of Ministry of Science & Technology, “municipal refuse burning dioxin treatment technology and equipment” founded by Ministry of Science & Technology and municipal government and a lot of other programs. Its projects of industrial waste treatment water especially dyeing waste water and municipal waste water treatment cover more than 10 provinces and cities in China. There was no obvious changes in water quality of Changjiang River within this province at the beginning of 2010, all the water quality from the 11 monitoring sections meet the case of water environmental functional area, being of level II.

Among the 17 cities, autonomous prefectures, directly governed cities and Shennongjia Forest District in this province, comprehensively assesses according to the annual concentration of SO2, NO2, suspended particulate matte, absorbable particulate matte, 10 meet the case of national level II, 7 meet the case of national level III. There are 96 environmental monitoring organs of various levels, 1,933 persons working on environmental monitoring.
